Is there anything more enchanting than a snowfall in Paris? Perhaps the hidden civilization of Machu Picchu, the rock formations of Cappadocia or the emerald waters of Halong Bay… and let’s not forget about India… but still, having seen so much of the world, the beauty of Paris is unique. As though the city were not solemnly spectacular enough clad in it’s usual hues of gray blanketed by a sky of blue and pink. A coat of white creates an even greater feeling of serenity. Mostly due to the fact that the city almost literally shuts down. All sense of order is lost and even the trusted boulangerie might be taking a snow day. All adding to the appeal of a city that sleeps. Especially in the winter.
Before the snow turned to hail and inevitably ice, I captured a little beauty of my Haute Marais, at that perfect moment when the light was falling as I so eloquently tried not to.

Is this not one of the most magical streets in the world?
It IS enchanting but mostly when you get to stay indoors! I had to go out in it several times, almost fell, got pelted with a snowball, and had freezing water drip on my head. Maybe it just wasn’t my day? =) Looks like you had a better experience!
It can be scary out there in the snow (often safer looking from the inside) but SO beautiful! I almost slipped a few times, hence my Marais tour was a short one!

oh, i simply cannot wait – we’ll be there in about 10 days and i am so excited to bundle up! it’s all i can think about. that and the fact that my parents are moving to aix-en-provence which means visiting often!
my father’s in Paris right now and he had lived there for 10 years once upon a time (before he came to America) and he can’t believe how much snow there is in the city! Tres jolie!

There is no place more beautiful than Paris at Christmas. But, glad I am back home and out of the snow…Even with all the beautiful lights at every store and almost every block has something special to see.
