travel meets fashion

I love to travel as much as I love designing. Thus, I decided to design a custom travel bag, revealing the three cities closest to my heart. A seemingly easy task, at least for the first two. Paris, since this is now my home and ever since that first visit so many years ago, love at first encounter. New York since it’s where I spent some of the most memorable (and formative) years of my life.

As for the third, that was a challenge. There are many cities I became enamored with, mostly during my journey around the world. Buenos Aires, Hanoi, Ubud (more a town than a city), Sydney, Mumbai, Kyoto, Luang Prabang, Krakow, London, Mexico City… the list goes on. But where was it that stood out in my mind unlike any other? Tokyo. Perhaps because I was there with dear friends on both my first visit and my second. Or perhaps it was due to the freshest sushi I’ve even eaten at 7am after a night of darts and karaoke… or simply, the unique energy and electricity in the air.

Whatever it was, Tokyo won a place on my bag. Along with Paris and New York.

What are your top three?

To make this equally exciting for all fashion savvy travelers out there, I’m giving away one custom hand-painted reversible travel bag to a lucky traveler and fan. With your initials printed on the inside pocket. To enter, leave a comment stating your three favorite cities and join my facebook fan page where I will announce the winner on December 15th. Bonne chance and many a bon voyage!

What are my 3 favourite cities? That is a challenging question! I have had different favourite cities at different stages of my life. In my early 20s, I fell in love with a man from Frankfurt, Germany. Although the city wasn’t that special, he took me to Berlin where I did fall in love! Berlin is well known for its festivals, diverse architecture, nightlife, contemporary arts, orchestras and museums. In my 30s, I met my husband who is from Ottawa, Canada. It became my favourite city. The canal, the river, the market, the jazz festival, the tulip festival, the city’s national museums and galleries. And no city celebrates Canada Day like Ottawa. Now in my 40s and a mom, my favourite city is Paris, France. My family can experience new things on every trip and revisit our favourites- the museums, art galleries, churches, parks, the list could go on and on! I am looking forward to seeing what cities will be my favourites in my 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s!

Very well put Lili, different cities appeal at different stages of life. I hadn’t thought of it, but it’s true. I love all the descriptions you provide for each city that has taken residence in your heart. I too wonder what my cities of choice will be as the decades pass, though for the moment I plan to remain in my 30’s (and in Paris) for as long as possible!

  8. Sam November 17, 2011

Wonderful idea. My husband and I decided a few years back that we love what we call “underdog” cities. We live in one of them now and plan on living in another later in life:

    Edinburgh
    Montreal
    Berlin

    S.

    • Kasia November 21, 2011

Ah, underdog cities! Great choices! Is Edinburgh really considered secondary? It’s such a beautiful city!

  9. Gail Boisclair November 17, 2011

  21. Sweet Freak November 19, 2011

Another brilliant bag for the collection, mon amie – I love it! And my third city (you know the first two are New York and Paris) would have to be San Francisco.

  22. Laetitia November 23, 2011

    Tough choice !

Paris : where I grew up – still the most beautiful to me
Sydney : my second home, great climate, great people, delicious food, lovely birds and amazing beaches
I also love New York but will have to say San Francisco as my 3rd choice : where I studied and spent some great holidays, love the atmosphere

    • Kasia November 27, 2011

Great selection of cities (and reasons behind them) even though you didn’t choose New York 😉

    London
    New York
    Ibiza

  27. LauraC December 1, 2011

Wow, I love your bags Kasiaaaa!!!

I spent some months in Paris two years ago and that’s where I left (part of) my dreams and my heart. The other part still belongs to Florence and Tuscany.

So I’ll go for Paris, Florence and Bordeaux, a wonderful city that reminded me of my childhood and my family in Tuscany.

    • Kasia December 4, 2011

I can tell that you are a true romantic Laura! A great mix of France and Italy.

  28. Chris P December 4, 2011

Cool, chic bags. My three favorites are:

    New York
    Paris
    Cape Town

    • Kasia December 4, 2011

Great list. I have yet to visit Cape Town and suspect it will become one of my favorites too.

  29. Nichole Brown December 6, 2011

I really should gift one of your bags for Christmas, but I want them all for myself… oh the dilemma. If I win this one, I promise to buy one for someone else.

    My three favorite cities are

#1 Paris – where I feel truly feminine and whole (I’m Parisian on the inside)
#2 New York – it has (almost) everything!
#3 Austin (Texas) – where my inner southern cowgirl goes to play

    • Kasia December 7, 2011

The holidays are all about giving 😉 Great list (of course), I have yet to experience Austin…

  30. Jennyphoria December 15, 2011

Hmmm… great question. The first two are easy:

New York – my hometown and the place which describes me most easily
Paris – which feels the most like home

and… this is just too hard. I definitely need to travel more to know I’ve made the right choice, but for now:

Prague – where I fell in love with a boy for the very first time.

    • Kasia December 16, 2011

Fabulous list of 3 cities! (I too love Prague) I had a hard time with the third as well. Perhaps it will better reveal itself in the future….
